YMCA shows strong numbers for summer baseball, softball
About 4,000 kids are playing ball this summer under the umbrella of the YMCA’s summer programs.
A total of 231 boys and girls teams in grades K-9 are enrolled in recreational softball and baseball programs, playing eight-game schedules in June and July. An additional 70 teams – 48 boys teams and 22 girls squads – are in a “micro” program for children entering kindergarten this fall. Their six-game schedule is played on Saturdays.
In addition, the YMCA offers Spirit baseball and softball opportunities for older youngsters. A total of 10 baseball and 15 softball teams are playing Spirit ball.
USA Special Olympics looking for volunteers for 2010
Organizers need about 8,000 volunteers for the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games, set to take place in Lincoln next year.
