YMCA shows strong numbers for summer baseball, softball

About 4,000 kids are playing ball this summer under the umbrella of the YMCA’s summer programs.

A total of 231 boys and girls teams in grades K-9 are enrolled in recreational softball and baseball programs, playing eight-game schedules in June and July. An additional 70 teams – 48 boys teams and 22 girls squads – are in a “micro” program for children entering kindergarten this fall. Their six-game schedule is played on Saturdays.

In addition, the YMCA offers Spirit baseball and softball opportunities for older youngsters. A total of 10 baseball and 15 softball teams are playing Spirit ball.
